Home decoration should make your house feel inviting. It should make it feel like your refuge from the world, your safe space, your place to unwind and feel comfortable. It should be a place to put tired feet up and savor a nice glass of wine after a long day. It should be a place where you surround yourself with people and things that bring you joy.

My jewelry collections were inspired in part by my taste in home decoration – I suppose you could call my style “casually glamorous.” For example, in my cork jewelry collection I combine naturally textured pieces of cork with the sparkle of Swarovski crystals and glass beads. I give the corks a subtle wash of color, attach bits of fabrics and crystals in neutral colors with touches of brighter tones, and of course I add some shimmer. To me, it feels casual yet elegant. I want my environment to fit that same mood.

Take an inventory of your current home decoration style. Does it capture feelings of comfort, beauty, and warmth? If not, just a few simple changes can transform your surroundings. Here are a few home decoration ideas to make your place feel like a casually glamorous refuge.

5 Casually Glamorous Home Decoration Ideas

Seating

A cozy sofa you sink into. A comfortable dining chair that makes you want to linger over dinner. Fluffy pillows. Soft, luxurious blankets draped over the sofa. These all create an inviting place to relax and unwind. Face your seating area inward to facilitate discussion. Center your sofa and chairs around a coffee table – or even better – a large ottoman with a wood tray placed on top, so not only can you kick your feet up, but you’ll also have a place to set a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Anchor the seating area with an area rug to bring it all together.

Color

One of the most versatile home decoration ideas is to choose larger furniture pieces in neutral colors to use as a blank canvas (e.g., a tan, off-white, or brown sofa). Add color with pillows, blankets, artwork, candles, rugs, and other accessories. You can easily change out those pieces to suit your mood or vary them with the seasons. For a calming space, choose a monochromatic look with a mix of neutral colors or pick pastels like baby blue, pale rose, or lavender. For a bit more of a statement, throw in touches of bright purple, emerald, ruby, and other jewel tones to add pops of color. Add extra glam with metallic pieces.

Texture

Mix textures to add interest by pairing natural materials with chic and elegant pieces. For example, hang rustic matchstick blinds with shimmery silk curtains, or place a sparkling cut-glass bowl on a textured seagrass basket. Mix chunky, sweater-knit pillows with beaded or sequined ones. Mix patterned fabrics with solid colors. Use a rustic burlap table runner on the dining table and gather several glass votive holders together in the middle to create an eclectic centerpiece that reflects the candlelight.

Accessories

Accessories are a great way to add a touch of glamour. Personally, I love anything that sparkles (my jewelry isn’t called Sparkling Vine for nothing)! My home decoration ideas are often inspired by pieces that catch and reflect light – sparkly candle holders, shimmery fabrics, crystal and glass pieces. These all add elegance and glam to a space. My Home Collection offers several pieces that fit the mood, pieces like a shimmery hand-sculpted porcelain dish that doubles as a jewelry dish or wine bottle coaster and a matching mini dish with sparkly wine charms! And last but not least, don’t forget the flowers. Fresh flowers make a beautiful and colorful accessory for any room.

Lighting

I’m a big fan of soft mood lighting. Ditch the fluorescent kitchen lights and replace with recessed lighting on a dimmer switch or just add a couple of small lamps. You may not automatically associate lamps with kitchen or dining room lighting, but they create a cozier space that’s more conducive to deep conversations over appetizers and wine with friends or romantic weekday dinners. Use candles – lots of them! Even flameless candles create ambiance, as do white twinkle lights draped over windows or doorways.

By incorporating just a few of these simple home decoration ideas, you can create a comfortably casual yet elegant space that you’ll love to come home to.
